Are you ready to have some fun subtracting three or four? Get ready to go on an adventure with subtraction!
Imagine your friend has some fruit snacks in a bag and gives you some!
Yum!
When you take something away from something else, it is subtracting.
When you subtract, you can see what is left over!
Get ready, get set, go!
It's time to practice subtracting 3 or 4!
Start with 3!
Imagine there are 9 oranges on the table.
3 oranges are taken away.
9 oranges are on the table, but 3 are taken away.
That's subtraction!
Try counting back to subtract!
9... 8...7... 6!
There are 6 oranges left!
So, 9 -3 = 6!
Now try subtracting by 4.
There are still 9 oranges on the table.
This time, four oranges are taken away.
Try counting back!
9...8...7...6...5!
So, 9 - 4 = 5!
Now, watch this video to see more subtraction in action!
Great work, math superstar!
Before hopping to the Got It? section for more practice, try one more example below!
Imagine you have 10 strawberries.
Yum!
You give 3 strawberries to your friend.
Remember, you can count back to subtract!
Start at 10 and count back 3.
10...9...8...7!
There are 7 strawberries left!
Now, imagine you gave your friend 4 strawberries instead of 3.
There are 6 strawberries left!
Look at the two subtraction sentences below.
10 - 3 = 7
10 - 4 = 6
When you take one more away, you have one less strawberry.
Neat!
