If lemon juice is a 3, water is a 7, and broccoli is a 10, what does that mean? Is that flavor on a scale of 1-10? Don't bother tasting them, but do find out how a pH scale is used to measure acidity!
Do you remember that water is considered a neutral substance, meaning it is neither an acid nor a base? Did you know that water is also considered to be a “7” on the litmus scale? What is that all about? Read on to find out!
In the previous Acids and Bases lesson, Dr. Z mentioned something known as the “pH scale.”
Before you find out what that is, if you skipped or need to review the previous lessons, you can find them in the Related Lessons in the right-hand sidebar.
If you take a look at the picture above, you will notice that the pH scale may have something to do with acids and bases, or alkalis.
Let’s see if Dr. Z can further our knowledge and help us figure out what a pH scale is!
Continue on to the Got It? section to travel along the pH scale!
