  • Have you ever heard someone say, "I'm just a bundle of nerves"?

In a way, that's right! The brain may be kind of gross to look at, but it's a beautiful part of your body, amazing in what it is doing right now as you read this!

The nervous system is a system of cells, tissues, and organs that regulates the body's responses to internal and external stimuli.

Stimuli are things that cause responses in an individual, such as actions, thoughts, and feelings.

In humans, the nervous system consists of the brain, spinal cord, and nerves.

In this lesson, you will explore the nervous system and the parts of the brain using an interesting video, online quiz, brain thinking cap activity, and mind-FULL projects.

Get started by completing these activities:

  1. Watch Scholastic StudyJams! The Nervous System to learn about the parts of the nervous system.
  1. Take the brief quiz after watching Scholastic Study Jams! The Nervous System by clicking on the blue TEST YOURSELF button.
  1. Read Your Brain & Nervous System, reviewed by Larissa Hirsch. MD for KidsHealth. Be sure to explore The Brain and Nervous System slides as well to learn about the lobes of the brain and their functions.
