Everyone loves pizza, and now it's your turn to bake up some cheesy, mouthwatering masterpieces!
You've been baking delicious pizzas at your pizza parlor all day, but now you have a challenge. You need to find the total number of pizzas you've made.
It's time to become a pizza mathematician!
You can group the pizzas together to make adding them easier. By adding these groups, you’ll discover the total number of pizzas baked.
Imagine you had one group of 24 cheese pizzas and another group of 32 cheese pizzas.
To add these two-digit numbers, you must line them up in columns according to their place value. Start by adding the digits on the right (the ones place) and then move to the left (the tens place).
24 + 32 = 56
Wow! That’s 56 yummy cheese pizzas in your pizza parlor!
Now, look at some more groups of pizzas. You have a group of 53 pepperoni pizzas, a group of 12 sausage pizzas, and a group of 31 veggie pizzas.
Remember to line up your numbers according to their place value.
Using grid paper can help you keep your numbers organized. Make sure to line up each digit carefully!
Nice job!
Now, start by adding the digits in the ones place first.
When ready, turn over the card below to check your answer!
Great work, pizza mathematician!
Counting pizzas is fun, especially when you own a pizza parlor!
Nicely done!
Now, here's another challenge. You have a group of 64 cheese pizzas and a group of 28 cheese pizzas.
When you add the digits in the ones place, you get 12. Since 12 is a two-digit number, you need to regroup.
This means you keep the ones in the ones column and move the ten to the tens column.
To help you think about regrouping, base ten blocks can be really useful!
Check out the video below to see how to use base ten blocks to add two-digit numbers.
Now it’s your turn, pizza mathematician!
Count up these groups, and remember to line up your digits before you begin.
Fantastic!
