Is water a liquid? ls it a gas? What shape is air? What is everything made of? What are atoms doing all day? Get your camera and go on a hunt for solids, liquids, and gases!
Don't forget, most gases cannot be seen!
The picture has many examples of solids, liquids, and gases. Below are a few examples.
All objects are made up of atoms and molecules.
Atoms move around.
The atoms and molecules in gases move around a lot and are spread far apart.
Liquids have atoms and molecules that move around but stay somewhat close together.
Liquids and gases both take the shape of the container they are placed in.
Solids have tightly-packed atoms and molecules. Solids keep their shape.
The picture below shows the atoms and molecules in a solid, liquid, and gas.
Here are some examples of each state of matter. Each picture group shows matter as a solid, liquid, or gas.
After looking at the examples, move to the Got It? section to continue your review of solids, liquids, and gases.
