  • Before you complete this review, can you find an example of a solid, liquid, and gas in this picture?

Don't forget, most gases cannot be seen!

Netherlands

  • Did you explore the picture for solids, liquids, and gases?

The picture has many examples of solids, liquids, and gases. Below are a few examples.

  • solids: boats, trees, houses, grass, plants, and swan
  • liquid: river
  • gas: oxygen (air)
  • Did you find any of those examples?

All objects are made up of atoms and molecules.

  • Do you remember what a molecule is?

Atoms move around.

The atoms and molecules in gases move around a lot and are spread far apart.

Liquids have atoms and molecules that move around but stay somewhat close together.

Liquids and gases both take the shape of the container they are placed in.

Solids have tightly-packed atoms and molecules. Solids keep their shape.

The picture below shows the atoms and molecules in a solid, liquid, and gas.

states of matter

Here are some examples of each state of matter. Each picture group shows matter as a solid, liquid, or gas.
