The biology branches of agriculture and the study of human anatomy have been around for hundreds of years.

  • How did the science of biology start?

Biology is a large and complex field of science that did not develop overnight.

Many people during the course of the past centuries have contributed to what you now know as biology. Biology started centuries ago with the practices of farming and animal husbandry. Animal husbandry is the science of breeding and caring for animals.

In the first Related Lesson in this series, found in the right-hand sidebar, you should have downloaded the Discovering Biology Notebook and begun taking notes. You can find a new version in the right-hand sidebar as well.

In this lesson, continuing taking notes as you receive a brief overview of the history of biology and learn how famous historical figures — including Aristotle — contributed to this vast field of science.
