Do you know why the United States of America is called the United States? It's because it's made up of states, and you live in one of them! Find out about your state's flower, bird, animal, and stuff!
Where do you live?
If you live in the United States of America, you live in a state.
Some other countries have states, too.
There are 50 states in the United States. All states share similar characteristics, but also have their own unique characteristics.
Show your parent or teacher where your state is. Tell your parent or teacher the name of your state.
If you do not know the name of your state, ask a parent or teacher to help you locate it on the map below:
States can vary significantly in appearance. For example, if you take a trip to Nevada, you may come across the Nevada Desert. If you were to go to Alaska, you would see forests and mountains.
Think of some physical features your state has. Share what you know about your state with your parent or teacher.
Even though states can look different, they all have cities, towns, and streets.
For example, if you live in Florida, you may find that many people visit Orlando to go to Disney World or Miami to relax on the beach.
