Go on a fun adventure learning about fractions and how they help you in the real world!

  • Are you ready?

Nice work!

In a fraction, the numerator is on the top and shows the number of fractional pieces.

The denominator is on the bottom and shows the total number of equal parts in the whole.

Ok, now on to the mission!

Time to find the fraction of a whole number.

Think about the pizza again.

Imagine you have a yummy cheese pizza with eight slices!

So, you know that the whole is equal to eight because there are 8 slices of pizza or eight equal parts of the whole.

8/8 is equal to 1 whole.

Pretend you ate 1 slice of the pizza, equal to 1/8.

To find out what fraction of the pizza is left after eating one slice, simply look at each part left.

There are 7 slices left.

So, the fraction of the whole pizza that is left is 7/8.
