What if someone were to tell you, right now, to go eat a lemon; would you do it? Well, why not? Most likely your answer is because the lemon tastes very SOUR! What makes a lemon so sour?

What do you think is going on here? What kinds of foods did they eat, and what caused these reactions?

At one point or another, we have all made faces (as seen above) after eating something that tastes either very sour or very bitter. There are lots of foods in our world that can have these strong tastes. However, now is time for an exploration! If you are near your kitchen, take a look around! Can you think of or point to any foods that would taste very sour, or any foods that would taste very bitter?

If you said that a lemon is a food that can be very sour, you are right! If you said that baking soda is very bitter, you are right again! But how can we tell if something is either sour or bitter without taking a huge bite into it?
