In the Related Lesson on chapters 3-4, found in the right-hand sidebar, Jordan Baker shared her knowledge of Gatsby's and Daisy's relationship with Nick.

Briefly write down the information you remember that Jordan shared with Nick.

Gatsby and Daisy had dated each other in Daisy's hometown when she was only eighteen and Gatsby was a lieutenant in the Army during Word War I. In the five intervening years, Gatsby amassed a fortune and was intent on reconnecting with Daisy.

In Chapters 5 and 6, you will get to read what happens when the two finally meet at Nick's house.

Watch the following film clip from the 2013 Baz Luhrman adaptation of The Great Gatsby.

The clip shows the director, Baz Luhrman, discussing the scene from Chapter 5 when Gatsby and Daisy finally meet. Use this scene as a preview for your reading.

If you do not have a copy of the book, you may use Planet eBook's free version of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

You may want to take notes as you read on the relationship between Gatsby and Daisy, as well as Gatsby's past because this information can help you with later parts of this lesson.

Once you have finished reading, continue on to the Got It? section to test your knowledge of these two chapters and further investigate Daisy and Gatsby's relationship.
