  • What does your family do to have fun?
  • Would your family ever want to do something like the picture above?
  • Is there something new you haven't tried?

Families exist to love, take care of, and encourage one another.

One way families grow is by finding ways to have fun together. Each family has a unique way of spending time enjoying each other's company.

For example, your family may love to play mini-golf together, but your best friend’s family might think mini-golf is boring. Their family might love to race go-karts together, whereas your family might think that is too adventurous.

  • Why do you think different families have distinct ways they like to have fun together?

The activities a family finds fun depend on the personalities — the distinct qualities that make a person who they are — of the people who are part of the family. Not everyone has the same interests, fears, and hobbies. Therefore, different people find different things enjoyable.

Sometimes, families like to have fun at home.

Each of the images below shows things that families like to do for fun at home. Say out loud what the people are doing in each picture:

  • Which of these activities does your family enjoy doing together?
  • What other indoor activities does your family like to do for fun?

Sometimes, families like to go to new and exciting places, or just get out of the house and visit the local park for a little fun on a sunny day.

Each of the images below show things that families like to do for fun outside of the home. Say out loud what the families are doing in each picture:

  • Does your family enjoy doing any of these activities together?
  • What are some other outside or away-from-home activities your family enjoys?

You may prefer the movie theater, a museum, or a trampoline park to the beach or a hike in the woods. What your family enjoys doing and where they enjoy going is based on their personalities.

As an individual, you have a unique personality that makes you the special person you are, but together with the other members of your family, you make up an equally extraordinary unit. Each member of your family may be different, but you all enjoy doing some things together.

Just like different families have different interests, and therefore different things they all enjoy doing together, individual members of a family also have interests separate from those of the whole family.

For example, you may love to play board games, but other members of your family may prefer to play video games. In these cases, it is important to take turns.

You may agree to play video games during a family game night, but on the next family game night, you will play board games. Taking turns ensures that all members of a family are having fun together.

Think about a fun vacation or outing you have had with your family. If you have photos or an album of the trip, get those out and look at the pictures of your family having fun together.
