The United States can be broken down into regions.

A region is a large area of land that has common features. For example, in the United States there are 5 regions: the West, Southwest, Midwest, Southeast, and Northeast. The regions are named for their locations. For instance, the Northeast Region includes the states that are located in the Northeastern part of the country.
