Ready to learn about biographies?

First, make a list of what you think a biography is and what it includes. Here are some ideas:

• A biography is about a real person.
• It includes facts about the person.
• It is a true story.

What questions do you think a biography will answer? Here are some suggestions:

• Why is this person important?
• Where did he or she live?
• Is he or she famous?
• Why is this person famous?
• When was this person born?

To begin, you will use these answers to write a biography about Abraham Lincoln. You can read about Abraham Lincoln on this Garden of Praise web site or view Biography of Abraham Lincoln for Kids: Meet the American President for Kids - FreeSchool to learn about his life:

Download and print the K-2 Biography Graphic Organizer from Downloadable Resources in the right-hand sidebar. After reading, fill in each box by answering the question in each box:

1. Where and when did this person live?
2. Why is this person famous and important?

Now, put the information from the graphic organizer into sentences on the second page, and draw a picture of Abraham Lincoln.
