Imagine that you have applied for your dream job, you are in the middle of the interview and you are asked the question, "Why should we hire you?" Or, even worse, "Tell me about yourself!" How would you respond to these questions?

Depending on how well you are prepared for an interview, these questions may either be a slam dunk for you or very difficult to answer.

It also depends on how well you know yourself and your strengths.

Employers want to hire someone whom they feel makes sound ethical decisions. This is important to employers because it helps their business run smoother, helps keep employees productive, and helps employees get along better with one another.

So, when employers are conducting an interview, they are not only looking for someone who has great work habits, but also someone who can pass the test when it comes to making ethical decisions.

Please print and complete the It's All About Me Worksheet located in Downloadable Resources in the right-hand sidebar. This worksheet will give you the chance to rate yourself when it comes to caring for yourself and helping out at home, at school, and in the community.

Once you have completed the activity sheet, review your answers:

  • Do they reflect who you are and your capabilities?
  • How will your academic skills and abilities be viewed?
  • How about your personal skills and work habits?

When you are pretty confident that you know yourself, continue on to the Got It? section to turn the tables and see if you would hire yourself!
