Imagine you are in a race.

You could take 100 tiny steps to get to the finish line.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5...

That works, but it takes a while. Your shoes might start asking for a snack.

Now imagine you have super-jump shoes. Instead of counting every single step, you jump forward by 10 each time.

10, 20, 30, 40...

Whoa! You are getting to 100 much faster.

Try it now. Stand up if you can, or tap your knees if you are sitting.

Each time you say a number, jump, clap, or tap.

  • 30!
  • 40!
  • 50!
  • 60!
  • 70!

Print out the 1 - 100 Number Chart found under Downloadable Resources in the right-hand sidebar.

Then, follow these directions.

  1. Start with the 1 and count 10 spaces.
  • What number did you land on?

Yes, the 10. Color that space in.

  1. Now count another 10 spaces from the number 10.
  • What number did you land on? 20?

Good! Now, color in that space.

  1. Again, count 10 spaces and color in that space.
  • Are you starting to see a pattern?
  • Which space do you think you will color in next?
  1. Count another 10 spaces and color in that space. Were you correct with your guess?
  1. Continue coloring in every 10 spaces until you get to 100.

Great, you have all 10s colored in (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100).

  1. Say each 10 aloud and count by 10s to 100. Excellent!
