The answer to the riddle above included two types of nouns: common nouns and proper nouns.

A common noun names a person, place, or thing.

A proper noun names a specific person, place, or thing.

The nouns today and tomorrow are common nouns. Tuesday and Thursday are proper nouns because they name specific days.

When writing, proper nouns are capitalized.
