  • Have you ever written an essay or paper about something you were really passionate about or wanted to change, like making recess longer or why recycling is important?

If you have, you have written an opinion about something.

  • So, what is an opinion?

An opinion is something you think or believe, but it might not be believed by all people.

When writing an opinion effectively, or in the best way possible to help convince your reader, it is important to understand how to write a concluding statement. A concluding statement is found right at the end of an opinion essay.

In this lesson, you'll learn what a concluding statement is and how to write one!

Let's begin by watching Opinion Writing for Kids | Episode 6 | Writing a Draft: Conclusion, from Teaching Without Frills:

The conclusion is the last part of an opinion essay. It comes after the two other important parts of an opinion: the introduction and the reasons.

The introduction is the first part of the opinion essay where your opinion is stated, and the reasons are sandwiched in between the introduction and conclusion. Reasons provide examples or evidence that support your opinion.

Back to the conclusion!

A conclusion should restate your opinion. That is the most important part of a concluding statement in an opinion essay.

Some writers also summarize their reasons in their conclusion or leave the reader with a fun question or something to think about.
