Have you ever been to a fair or a carnival?

When you go to the fair there is so much to see. You can see the lights from the rides glowing in the darkening sky. You may hear children screaming with joy as they zoom around on the rides. You may taste the sweetness of cotton candy and funnel cake. You can even pet some farm animals on display. If you have visited a fair or carnival, share your experience with your parent or teacher. Then, try to imagine how a pig feels at a fair!

You are nearing the end of Charlotte's Web.

You might be wondering what will happen to Wilbur and Charlotte. Think back to the last Related Lesson, found in the right-hand sidebar. Were you surprised that Templeton and Charlotte go along to the fair with Wilbur? Do you remember when Wilbur overheard Mr. Arable say that Wilbur will make extra good ham or bacon? He was so upset to hear this news that he fainted!

Before you move on to find out what happens at the fair, find the Charlotte's Web Chapter Summary in your notebook on Page 10. (Downloadable Resources) Add a summary for Chapters 14-16. You can use the same format you used in previous lessons to write your summary. Look back in the book for help if you need a reminder about what happened. Be sure your summary includes these five points:

Somebody (who was the chapter about)
Wanted (what did the character want)
But (what was the problem)
So (what happened next)
Then (how was the problem solved or how did the section end)

On the right side of the page, write a prediction about what you think will happen in Chapters 17-18.

In Chapters 17-18, you will read some words that may be unfamiliar to you. To prepare yourself for reading these words, print the Charlotte's Web Vocabulary 17-18 from Downloadable Resources in the right-hand side bar.

After you follow the instructions to assemble and glue the page to your notebook on Page 27, add it to the Table of Contents page in the beginning of the notebook. Don't forget to number your pages.

Once you have your vocabulary page ready, move on to the Got It? section to begin reading the next two chapters of Charlotte's Web.
