What do you know a lot about? Dinosaurs? Space? Your neighborhood park?

When you share facts or teach someone about a topic you know, you are informing them, or giving them information.

In this lesson, you are going to share information you know through your writing. You will write about a person, place, thing, event, or idea.

You will now get to watch a video of a teacher showing you how to brainstorm, or think about, what you would like to teach people in your writing. Before you watch this video, ask your parent or teacher to get a white board or chart paper so they or you can take notes. During the video, you can ask your parent or teacher to pause when you hear something important, then they can help you write it down on the white board or chart paper. Here is the wonderful Kindergarten Information Writing video from the TC Reading and Writing Project. Even if you are not in Kindergarten, this is a wonderful video for you:

After watching the video, you can talk with your parent or teacher about what you learned. You can also write those ideas on the white board or chart paper.
