After receiving leave in Chapter 7, Paul returns to the war, first in a training camp and then back at the front. Follow Paul's adventures as the war drags into its final years.

In Chapter 7, Paul received leave to visit his family.

However, after two weeks, he is required to return to the war effort. In Chapter 8, Paul first goes to a training camp where he encounters a Prisoner-of-War camp. In Chapter 9, Paul rejoins his company at the front.

Before reading Chapters 8 and 9, there is some vocabulary to define. • moors
  • opalescent
  • dregs
  • furtive
  • grovel
  • apathetic
