You probably already know that the settlement at Plymouth was settled by pilgrims who left England seeking religious freedom.

  • Did you know the other New England colonies were mostly established by settlers who left Massachusetts seeking religious freedom?

In this first Related Lesson of the series, Colonial Regions: How the 13 Colonies Got Their Start, you will learn about the history of the New England colonies.

Today, you will learn about the New England colonies.

The New England colonies began at Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 1620, and consisted of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. Let's take some time to investigate each of these colonies to learn about their history and what daily life was like in this region.
