History. Who needs it? Why does it matter? Why are we forced to learn it in school? Before you begin building a case against the discipline, force yourself to think of a couple reasons why history matters.
In this lesson, you’re going to explore the reasons why history is taught, and how it affects your personal life!
You probably have your own ideas about history – what it is, why it is or isn’t important, etc.
Depending on where you stand on the love it–hate it continuum, this lesson may just reassert your thinking or completely turn your world upside down. Regardless of the outcome, you’re bound to learn a couple of new approaches to thinking about history. The idea that history is not just a summary of facts and dates is a basic assumption you are going to have after completing this lesson.
