  • What is Belle's problem in Beauty and the Beast?
  •  How is the problem solved?
  •  How can problem-solving help you become a better reader?

Let’s explore.

Fiction stories have story elements.

Elements are different parts that make up the story, like ingredients in a recipe.

These story elements include characters, the setting, a problem, and a solution. Understanding story elements can help you become a better reader.

In this lesson, you will explore finding the problem and solution in fictional stories.

In a story, the problem and solution fit together like a puzzle. The problem is the conflict that a character faces during the story; it's what makes the story exciting! The problem sometimes appears in the middle of the story.

The solution is how the character solves the problem. The solution can also be called the resolution. Finding the problem and solution in a story is an important part of understanding what you read.

Watch the following videos to learn about the problem and solution in a story:

Use the Problem and Solution Graphic Organizer to fill in the problem and solution from the story in the video. Suggested answers can be found on the Amazing Grace - Problem and Solution Answer Key.
